The Condominium - Maui Vista #1402

When we bought our condo, we first and foremost looked for a great location. We wanted something that provided the “tropical island feeling.” We wanted to be near or on a beach we really liked and where we felt at home. We also wanted a location that would in and of itself be cool and provide access to the things we liked. We wanted a location that would give us easy access to other cool locations, such as the North Shore and Lahaina. We wanted restaurants and shops nearby. We wanted a cool location we could bring our friends to. With all that, it quickly became clear we wanted to be in the southern part of Kihei, with Charley Young Beach (the north end of Kamaole 1) being our favorite beach location.

Kihei (the area our condo is located in) is one of the two major tourist hubs on Maui (Lahaina being the other), providing easy access to restaurants and shops, as well as all the beach activities. At the same time, Kihei is not quite as overrun as Lahaina (especially when a cruise ship is in!). Yet with Kihei’s central location on Maui, Lahaina is just a short trip away. We travel to the North Shore quite a bit. In fact, the water sport options on the North Shore are the main reason we purchased property in Maui. So why not buy on the North Shore then? Well, for one, in Maui you always have to drive to get to the major activities. There simply are no ocean front or ocean view properties in places like Ho’okipa or Kanaha. Also, the North Shore isn’t for everyone. We want to bring friends and family to Maui, and for most of them, a beach that’s hammered by a 15 foot wave is neither an enjoyable nor a safe experience. Kihei provides a friendly beach. Children can play in the water. You can try surfing or SUP (stand up paddle). It’s a cool and fun place to be.

Charley Young Beach, directly across the street from our condo, is an awesome beach with something for everyone. Whether you like to swim, snorkel, or even body surf, you are at the right place! You can also take out a SUP or surf board. Generally speaking, the three Kamaole beaches (creatively named Kamaole 1, Kamaole 2, and Kamaole 3) are some of the best beaches in Maui. The north end of Kamaole 1, is also known as Charley Young Beach, is considered the nicest area. It's not crowded so you'll have plenty of sandy area to stretch out. The northern end provides some rocks and shade and a snorkeling opportunity. This part of the beach is just across the street from us. You can also stroll down a bit further to the south side of Kamaole 1. Kamaole 2 is still cool, but probably the least interesting of the three Kamaole beaches. Kamaole 3, also quite nice, is probably the most popular for locals. It does however have a narrower strip of sand and there are more people, which means it often is crowded and tends to get a bit dirtier because it gets so much use. Note that all three Kamaoles are south of the area in Kihei where you can often end up with a lot of seaweed, which you want to avoid. The Kamaoles are three awesome beaches, but we also encourage you to drive around and check out other Maui beaches, because there are plenty of cool ones!

After some searching (and with the help of our awesome real estate agents from Big Wave Realty) we were able to locate a condominium we loved. Our condo is in the Maui Vista complex, which isn’t ocean front, but does have an ocean view. Located on the top floor of a four-story building provides a view of tons of palm trees and the ocean (including the sun setting into the water!). Maui Vista is considered a “condo-tel.” Yes, they are condos, but the property also has hotel-style amenities such as a concierge that can help you book trips and other things. Best of all: Our condo is right across from Charley Young Beach. Would it be nicer to have ocean front? Maybe. Personally, we like seeing more of the island. It provides a “tropical island feel”. But yes, being right on the ocean would be very cool. If you are looking at vacationing in Maui, you will probably also be tempted to get ocean front. But then you will also discover the reason we went with ocean view: Ocean front is outrageously expensive! Not worth paying 2 or 3 times as much if you ask us. We think it is money better spent on a nice dinner at an ocean front restaurant or a cool place such as Mama’s Fish House.


Here are a few pictures of our condo. It has several recent upgrades including a remodeled master bath and a Jacuzzi tub upstairs. We have continued upgrading various parts of the condo, such as adding a new couch, new pattio furniture, new bedroom furniture, a new HDTV and an Xbox, and more.

Our condo has an ocean view and is only steps away from one of Maui’s most beautiful beaches. After a long day of exploring, relax on the balcony with a cool drink and enjoy the sunset. The Jacuzzi tub makes our condo uniquely suited for a romantic getaway. The condo is ideal for couples and families looking for the real Maui experience without the prices that go along with the Maui hotels.

The Maui Vista condominium community is a three-building complex. It is considered a “condo-tel” since it offers many of the amenities of a hotel, such as concierge service, three pools, six tennis courts, BBQ areas, and more. If you are in the mood for an excursion but don’t know how to set it up? No problem. Just check in with the concierge. Our unit (#1402) is located on the fourth floor of Building #1 facing the ocean (Maui Vista Buildings #2 and #3 are behind Building #1). Our condo's location near the end cap makes it private and quiet. This unit has had many upgrades (new bathrooms, kitchen, appliances and more) and we will continue to make additional upgrades. We will also be adding a new HD TV and an Xbox 360.

The general location of Maui Vista is very convenient. Perhaps you may want to rent a car to see other parts of Maui, but you will not need one if you want to stay mainly in Kihei. Maui Vista is walking distance to the local super market, stores, restaurants, gorgeous beaches and The Cove (Maui's South shore surf beach) and a lot more.

The condominium comes stocked with just about anything you will need (see amenities list), from spices in the gourmet kitchen to towels, chairs, cooler, CDs, boogie boards, other beach toys, and more. The unit also features a washer and dryer (no extra fee). We want to provide everything that you need for an unforgettable stay (not to mention the things we need ourselves) and a real Hawaiian experience! Additional information about rental rates

  • Until confirmed, rates are subject to change without notice.
  • 3 day minimum stay required, 5 day minimum for Holidays.
  • Repeat customers are eligible for a 10% discount.
  • A 50% deposit of grand total is required to hold the reservation.
  • FULL PAYMENT must be received 30 days prior to arrival.
  • A one time cleaning fee of $150 is assessed regardless of duration of stay or number of people.
  • There is an additional fee of 13.42% for Hawaii state GET and TAT taxes (Tax #: W18394398-01).

Cancellation Policy

A 5% cancellation fee will be applied to all reservations. For cancellations received within 90 days of arrival or after arrival date, all payments will be retained. If the subject property can be re-rented, a pro-rata refund will be issued less the 5% cancellation fee.

No cancellations fees will apply to reservations cancelled within 24 hours of booking date. To cancel your reservation without penalty you must send an e-mail within 24 hours, otherwise the reservation will be considered final and subject to cancellation fees. We provide this courtesy to allow guests time to coordinate flight schedules.

Corporate Programs

The upstairs bedroom has a queen size bed with a Four Seasons mattress. There is a child "playard", a bumper chair, and a safety gate for the youngest guests. The couch in the living area can be used as a pull-out queen size sleeper sofa that sleeps two as well as these things ever do. :-)

Living Area

The main living room opens up to the lanai (balcony). We have just replaced some of the furniture, such as the couch (November 2013) and we have a brand new HDTV as well as an Xbox for gaming and media streaming.

Included Amenities

Linens and towels are provided. There is enough soap and paper products to get you started for a couple of days. You'll also find boogie boards, cooler, umbrella, beach mats, tennis rackets, beach raft, etc. The unit is air conditioned (one unit for the condo and a separate unit for the master bedroom). Stacked washer/dryer is available in the condo (no extra fee). Parking off street. To park in the complex, pick up a temporary parking pass in the main office.

Location and View

The condo has an ocean view. There is about 100 yards of island in between you and the water, including South Kihei Road, a row of bungalows and a whole bunch of palm trees. However you can see the ocean from the balcony and since you are on the west side of the island you can see the sun set into the water. We think it is quite enjoyable and provides us with a certain kind of "island feeling" we really like. The photo below was taken from the our balcony.

The beach is easily reached in approximately a two minute walk from our condo - it's directly across the street and a few dozens of feet to make it all the way across the sand and into the water :-). Seriously: The beach is easily close enough to come back to the condo and pick up another book or a drink on a whim. And with all the amenities of Kihei within walking distance, this is a cool location.

In Kihei you'll find great live music, during the afternoons and DJ music at night - many places having music 7 nights a week, great shopping near-by including some chain grocery stores, an excellent city bus system and movie theater.
If you are looking for chain stores you'll find Costco, Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot and Pier 1 as well as fast food chain restaurants all 15 miles away in Kahuluhi.
