Hello! We are Markus and Ellen, the owners of the condominium you are considering. We live in Maui part time, and we split our time between Maui, Houston (Texas), and Austria (near the city of Salzburg, right in the middle of the Alps). I know: It's a tough life, but someone has to do it. ;-)
But it's not all fun and games of course. We are own various businesses in the US and Europe. Our core business revolves around software development. We specialize in consulting, custom software development, training, conferences, and more. We also publish a leading software developer magazine. If you are interested in those endeavors, check out www.eps-software.com and www.codemag.com and follow some links from there.
Markus is originally from Salzburg, Austria, although he has now lived in the United States for quite some time. Ever since he was six years old, Markus has been into windsurfing, which quickly lead to the dream of one day living on Maui. It has taken quite some time, but now that dream has come true. How cool is that! :-)
Markus is the President and Chief Software Architect of EPS Software Corp. (and it's various properties, such as CODE Consulting, CODE Training, and VFPConversion). He is also the Publisher of CODE Magazine and the co-host of CodeCast. He is a Microsoft RD (Regional Director) and one of the longest-running Microsoft MVPs (1996-present). Markus is the founder of other business ventures, such as Tower48 (digital software escrow), Xiine (digital reading), JockTock (sports social network), and more.
Markus has worked on a large number of software projects for some of the world's largest companies (including a number of Fortune 500 companies). Markus worked as a contractor for the Microsoft Visual Studio team, and has worked closely with various product groups at Microsoft. Besides his activities around CODE Magazine, Markus has been published extensively in practically all large industry publications (mainly in English, but on occasion in German as well). He has received various and numerous awards and recognitions, many related to his active involvement in the community and his regular appearances at events of all sizes. Markus has also been involved in the creation and continued support of various user groups.
In his spare time, Markus is an enthusiastic ice hockey player (and supporter) as well as an avid windsurfer, traveler, and general enthusiast of sports such as scuba diving, golf, mountain biking, skiing, and much more (hence the desire to spend as much time in Maui as possible). On rainy days, Markus either reads, enjoys a computer game, or researches new technologies.
You can find out more about Markus at www.MarkusEgger.com and you can friend Markus on Facebook. You can also follow him on Twitter (@MarkusEgger). You may also be interested in Markus' travel writing which you can follow on his blog at http://www.markusegger.com/Blog/Travel.aspx.
Ellen was born in Syracuse, NY and grew up in a rural area about an hour north of Syracuse in Camden, NY. She attended Rutgers University in New Jersey where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
In 1999, Ellen moved to Houston and merged her software development company with Markus’ to become what is known today as EPS Software Corp and CODE. Ellen and Markus still work for EPS today, albeit often times remotely. Ellen handles many tasks for EPS including the accounting, working with the sales and marketing teams, management and software development for internal projects like www.codemag.com.
In her spare time, Ellen enjoys many outdoor activities like hiking, mountain biking, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, jogging and SCUBA diving. She isn’t sure she’s a golf enthusiast, but is giving it a try at Markus’ insistence. :-) She hopes living in Hawaii part time will give her more time to enjoy outdoor activities including the opportunity to finally learn to windsurf beyond a total novice level. Ellen also enjoys reading, playing computer games, cooking, baking homemade bread and most of all travelling.
